About Srkbs

Sri Ramakrishna Bhajana Samaj, located in Bangur Nagar, Goregaon West, Mumbai, is a distinguished spiritual and cultural institution with a rich history spanning over five decades. Established on the auspicious day of Vijayadashami, October 1, 1968, the Samaj was born from the unification of two prominent local organizations—Sri Krishna Gana Sabha (Goregaon East) and Sri Rama Bhajana Samaj (Goregaon West). This merger was inspired by the visit of His Holiness Sri Sankaracharya of Sringeri Peetham, Abhinava Vaidyateertha Swamigal, in May 1967, aiming to consolidate the religious activities and serve the spiritual needs of the community more effectively .

The Samaj's initial activities included conducting regular Bhajans at Vivek Vidyalaya premises and in the houses of devotees. Festivals like Sri Rama Navami, Janmashtami, Thai Poosam, Skanda Shashti, and Sastha Pooja were celebrated on a modest scale. During the Sri Rama Navami festival in 1972, the idea of establishing a dedicated premises for the Samaj was proposed, leading to the acquisition of a plot at Bangur Nagar in July 1973. The Bhoomi Pooja for the Samaj's building was performed by H.H. Sri Shankaracharya of Dwaraka Peetham .

In 1983, the Samaj constructed a temple and installed the presiding deity, Lord Sri Ramachandra Moorthy, along with his consort Sri Seetadevi, Lakshmana, and Aanjaneya. Separate sannidhanams for Aanjaneya and Lord Vinayaka were also established. The installation and consecration of all the deities were performed by Br. Sri Ganesha Shastrigal of South India Bhajan Samaj, Matunga, Mumbai.

In 1999, the construction of a magnificent Rajagopuram adorning the entrance of the temple was completed. This was followed by a Mahakumbhabhishekam on February 17, 2000, in the presence of H.H. Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal and H.H. Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham. To accommodate the growing number of devotees and activities, the temple expanded by adding the first and second floors in 1998. The hall on the first floor was air-conditioned in June 2017, and a lift was installed for the convenience of devotees.
